The Reynès talc mines are part of Vallespir’s rich industrial past. Exploited for several decades, they contributed to the local economy by supplying talc, a rock with many uses. Now abandoned, the mines remain a place steeped in history, nestled in an unspoilt natural landscape.

A little history

Talc mining in Reynès dates back several decades. This mining activity provided a livelihood for many local families. The talc extracted was used in a variety of industries, including cosmetics, paints and even the food industry. With the evolution of techniques and competition, mining gradually ceased, leaving behind galleries and industrial remains.

Can I visit the Reynès Talc Mines?

Today, the Reynès talc mines attract the curious and enthusiasts of industrial heritage. Although they are no longer in operation, they remain a witness to the past and blend into an exceptional natural setting, between the mountains and forests of Vallespir.

However, lovers of industrial history and hiking can explore the surrounding area and observe some of the remains of this operation. However, it’s important to respect the site and exercise caution due to the natural conditions of the terrain.

The route passes through a peaceful forest on wide, well-maintained paths, leading to the remains of an old talc mine. With its breathtaking panoramas, mysterious caves and industrial remains, this hike promises a captivating immersion in local history.
