Description

‘The Last Lighthouse Keeper of Occitanie’ – A 60-minute documentary film – Directed by François Brun. Friday 30 October at 6.00 pm at the Maison de l’Eau et de la Méditerranée. Admission: €5 per person. Discover the fascinating world of lighthouses, the sea and the people who have devoted part of their lives to keeping them running. A documentary film by François Brun – 2025 – Running time: 60 minutes Laurent Simons has lived in the Leucate lighthouse for around thirty years. He is responsible for the maintenance of all the lighthouses and beacons in the Aude and Roussillon regions. He is one of the last lighthouse keepers/technicians trained at the former École des Phares et Balises in Brest. Passionate about maritime heritage, he is steeped in this culture, now somewhat forgotten: a whole life devoted to the sentinels of the seas. But now that Laurent has retired, who will look after the lighthouse? Following in Laurent’s footsteps, this film recounts part of the history of France’s lighthouses, which have shone across the globe for a century. In the presence of François Brun, the film’s director, and Laurent Simons, keeper of the Leucate lighthouse
