Screening of the film (15 minutes) “From Racou to Cap Leucate: a coastline in flux”, followed by a discussion with Provence Lanzellotti (45 minutes), geographer, co-ordinator of the Catalan Sandy Coast Observatory and research officer specialising in coastal studies at AURCA.
The aim of the Catalan Sandy Coast Observatory is to gain a better understanding of the evolution of our sandy coastline and thus to better assess the risks of erosion and coastal flooding. Established in 2013, it serves as a knowledge base and decision-making tool for the Catalan sandy coastline, focusing on the relevant scale of the hydro-sedimentary unit between Le Racou (Argelès-sur-Mer) and Cap Leucate. The film “From Racou to Cap Leucate: A Coast in Motion” explains how the sandy coastline works. It features footage of the Catalan sandy coastline as well as animations illustrating the physical phenomena specific to this coastal system. The script has been designed to cover all the themes identified as key by the ObsCat stakeholders. It also features short interviews to convey clear messages. This film aims to shed light on the current situation in a straightforward manner, whilst presenting the subject matter in a style that moves away somewhat from the institutional or, at times, alarmist tone usually associated with such topics.
