‘Fascinated by his discovery of music linked to the Spanish folk tradition (notably Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez) and by
certain expressions of that country’s cultural heritage (such as flamenco or religious processions), the trumpeter Miles Davis presented
his intense and poetic vision of it in *Sketches of Spain*, a masterpiece that marked jazz’s opening up to world music. An emancipated disciple of
his illustrious predecessor, Erik Truffaz has become one of the leading figures of electro-jazz trumpet, whose creativity has never waned. His
encounter with the saxophonist and flamenco singer Antonio Lizana – a true phenomenon whom French audiences have come to appreciate in recent
years – was to culminate in an ambitious project: to present their contemporary take on these “Esquisses d’Espagne”, whose genius has spanned the
decades. A major event to mark the centenary of the birth of Miles Davis, that ‘prince of darkness’ who found the light in the land
