– A Tribute to John Coltrane –
Whilst 2026 marks the centenary of Miles Davis’s birth, it also marks the centenary of the birth of John Coltrane, who has since become
a jazz legend. In 1958, Miles and Coltrane played and recorded together. In 1961, ‘Africa/Brass’ was released, an album that has achieved cult status within
Coltrane’s extensive discography, as it is the only one the saxophonist ever recorded with a big band. Nearly half a century later, Christophe
Dal Sasso, recognised as one of France’s most talented arrangers, has returned to this iconic repertoire, to which he restores,
at the helm of an inspired and spirited big band, restores all its spiritual power, remaining faithful to the universal scope of the humanist message that John Coltrane
had placed at the heart of his music.
Alongside the legendary Africa Brass, this all-star line-up of French jazz musicians will perform other iconic John Coltrane tracks and will also
pay tribute to Sonny Rollins, the last giant of jazz who passed away on 25 May 2026, now a legendary figure in the genre alongside Miles Davis
and John Coltrane, to name but a few of the ‘centenarians’.
