Description

Exhibition from 24 October 2026 to 2 May 2027 The Céret Museum of Modern Art presents the work of Damien Deroubaix, a leading figure in French painting. Born in 1972 and trained in Saint-Étienne and Karlsruhe, the artist has, since the 2000s, been creating work rooted in art history, underground culture and cinema. Nominated for the Marcel Duchamp Prize in 2009, his works are held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Mudam in Luxembourg and the Centre Pompidou. At the Museum of Modern Art in Céret, more than thirty works – including paintings, ceramics and woodcuts – mark the culmination of the artist’s residency in the town between 2025 and 2026. Damien Deroubaix benefited from the hospitality of a painter, the advice of a ceramist and access to Pierre Brune’s studio at Le Castellas (the town’s former castle). In this setting, which fostered both creativity and friendship, the artist took a fresh look at Céret in the light of the Vallespir and produced new works, including ceramics being shown to the public for the first time.
