Bookings at the Media Centre (04 68 83 75 00) – Free A still life is also known as a ‘vie silencieuse’ or ‘still life’ in northern countries. It is a form of painting that depicts inanimate objects such as food, hunting trophies, flowers and vessels. The West has experienced major periods of interest in still life. Antiquity and the 17th century saw the greatest flourishing of this genre. The still life symbolises the transience of earthly life. This theme was of great significance in 17th-century religion. This creative workshop reinterprets the still life using relief painting, which brings it to life.
