This exhibition presents the role of the International Brigades, volunteers of all nationalities who came to fight in Spain to defend the Republic against the generals' rebellion, in the fight against fascism at the end of the 1930s. It makes the link between their commitment in Spain to the defence of republican ideals and values and the struggle of the volunteers who, after Spain, joined the Resistance in France and the maquis. The existence and struggle of the International Brigades are a reminder that even before the Second World War, men and women from all countries tried to oppose the advance of fascism.
