A freelance photographer and researcher, Pierre Suchet has been exploring the relationships between urban rivers, territories and their inhabitants for over ten years. His work, at the crossroads of art and the human sciences, combines large-format camera photography, archive research, interviews and collaborations with geographers and historians.
In this talk, he will be presenting - among other things - his project Sur les traces du Furan, a vast photographic survey of this river in Saint-Etienne, from its source at Le Bessat to its confluence with the Loire. Combining contemporary images, old iconography and the stories of local residents, the project aims to rediscover the river as an essential part of Saint-Étienne's landscape and identity.
Through his images and his narrative, Pierre Suchet invites us to reflect on our relationship with invisible or forgotten rivers, the transformations of the territory and the traces left by past and present uses of water. This meeting will be an opportunity to discuss the place of rivers in the city and the role of photography as a tool for investigation, memory and transmission.
