Henri Matisse discovered the Mediterranean during a stay in Corsica in 1898, followed by various journeys
between Collioure, Spain and Morocco were to have a significant influence on his work. At the end of the
the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Japan also featured prominently in the works of French artists
of French artists, including Henri Matisse. Through paintings, watercolours and drawings, both significant and unpublished
(re)discover Henri Matisse as never before, a Mediterranean and Japanese artist.
