The main aim of this history of Catalonia is to set out the historical facts and reasons that help to explain the exceptional events that have taken place in Catalonia, from its origins to the events of 2012 and 2022, embodying a quest for freedom and independence. With this in mind, the author focuses on the last two centuries, the 19th and 20th, because they contained the deep-rooted and ever-present causes of its current situation. From ancient origins to contemporary issues, discover the history of Catalonia from the Catalan point of view. Gentil Puig-Moreno was born in 1934 in southern Catalonia, near the mountain of Montserrat. He obtained a doctorate in Romance linguistics at the University of Montpellier under the supervision of the occitanist Robert Lafont. A ferryman of cultures and defender of pluralism, he is an honorary professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the University of Perpignan.
